In this game the paytable is the RTP. Two machines can look identical, run the same rules and return several percent differently, and the only way to tell them apart is two numbers on the payout screen.

How it works

You are dealt five cards. You hold the ones you want and discard the rest, which are replaced once. A pair of jacks or better pays; anything less does not. That is the whole game, and unlike a slot, your decisions genuinely change the outcome.

The two numbers that decide everything

Look at what the machine pays for a full house and a flush, per coin bet.

• 9 and 6 — the full-pay machine. With correct play this configuration is famous for returning around 99.5%, among the best odds in any casino.
• 8 and 5 — the same game, the same graphics, roughly two and a half points worse.
• 7 and 5 or lower — walk away.

Is it rigged?

The deck is shuffled before the deal, not adjusted after you choose your holds. That is the fairness question for video poker, and it is what separates a real machine from a rigged one: a game that decided your draw after seeing your discards could beat perfect strategy every time.
